STC was founded in the spring of 1998 by Switzerland Tourism, Swissair, the Swiss Federal Railways SBB, the Swiss Hoteliers Association and Gastro-Suisse, with the assistance of the State Secretariat for Economy (Seco). In the fall of 1999, the enterprise increased its capital to 10.5 million CHF and welcomed Europcar as a new shareholder.
