Franz Vasicek founded the company ‘Garage Riesbach AG'.

The company expanded into the field of car park exploitation, and since then it has operated the Utoquai, Zürichhorn, Bleicherweg, Talgarten and Kongresshaus car parks in Zurich.
1969
The first counters for car rental business were opened on the Lindenstrasse in the Seefeld District in Zurich and at the Zurich-Kloten Airport. They initially operated under a license from Tilden, which was followed by National Car Rental and then Kemwel.
1988
Riesbach AG took over the Budget license and started building up an extensive location network.
1994
Careal Holding purchased Riesbach AG and integrated it into its AMAG Group.
1996
Riesbach AG took over the license from Europcar.
2000
Riesbach AG was renamed ‘AMAG Services AG'. This step underscored the connection to AMAG.
2006
Eurazeo, a French investment company, acquired 100% of Volkswagen AG's Europcar share capital.
Europcar International took over the European activities of US corporation Vanguard Car Rental Holding and thus the operational business of National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car.
2008
Europcar International enters into a partnership (strategic alliance) with Enterprise Rent-a-Car, the number one in North America. Together, ECI and Enterprise Rent-a-Car maintain a fleet of more than 1.2 million vehicles at 13,000 locations in 162 countries, and now have the worldwide biggest car rental network.
Europcar International (ECI) is Europe's largest car rental company. The headquarters of this global player are in Paris. From its French headquarters, ECI services all of the corporate and franchise countries. Internationally, Europcar rents vehicles in 149 countries at 3479 locations with around 225,000 vehicles. Europcar is represented in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Indian Ocean region, Central and South America, Mexico, the Caribbean and the Asia-Pacific region. Since 2006 Europcar has been a fully owned subsidiary of Eurazeo, an investment company.
As the largest car importer in Switzerland, AMAG Automobil- und Motoren AG is Switzerland's biggest importer of motor vehicles. It remains a privately owned and 100 per cent Swiss company. AMAG imports the most-sold as well as the most-driven marques in Switzerland. Today, customers are served by some 1,100 VW, Škoda, Audi, SEAT and VW commercial vehicle partners through the country's most closely-knit network of dealers and service partners. AMAG additionally maintains 82 own dealerships providing services under the AMAG brand. In addition to the import marques, AMAG RETAIL sells Porsches through its 13 dedicated Porsche dealers, and has become the worldwide fourth-largest seller of Porsche automobiles. What is more, AMAG not only sells high-quality products, the company also provides interesting finance deals - AMAG LEASING AG has been a significant player in the Swiss vehicle leasing business since 1980. The AMAG Group also operates a number of public multi-storey car parks in Zurich and other towns. The AMAG Group employs some 4,700 persons, including 685 apprentices. In 2008 it generated sales of 4.2 billion Swiss francs.
